Setting Up Your Screen

Notes:

1. PartyCAD will work with Large Fonts

2. You can use the DirectX Diagnostic Utility to check your graphics board for DirectX related problems. Click here to learn how to do this.

PartyCAD should work fine on all Windows 7 and Windows Vista machines. Almost always it will work on Windows XP as well, but there are a few old and lame machines, especially ancient laptops where problems  relating to the resolution of the screen may occur. if this happens with your machine and you feel like fighting the problem rather than switching to a better machine, the print this help topic and go for it

How to Change Screen Resolution and Font Size

a. Get out of the program and all other programs.

b. Right-click on the Desktop (the screen that comes up when Windows starts).

c. Click on Properties in the popup menu that appears.

d. Click on the Settings tab.

e. Generally screen resolution is not the source of DirectX problems, so if you want to skip this step, feel free to do so. Look at the Display Area or Screen Area section and drag the Resolution (this may be labeled Less/More) slider so that 800x600 or higher is selected. If you also have a Desktop slider, drag this to 800x600 or greater as well.

f. Some DirectX problems are as a result of the color depth setting. Look at the Color Palette section and set the palette to the highest type available for your system (consistent with the advice above), but do not select 24 bit color. The scroller at the left of this section will let you see all the possibilities. On very old or lame machines it is best to use 16 bit color. This is NOT the same as 16 colors - do not select 16 colors.

g. Generally Font Size is not the source of DirectX problems, so if you want to skip this step, feel free to do so. Look at the Font Size section. Set your machine to use Normal (96dpi) or Large (120dpi) Fonts. Some machines do not display the Font Size section on this menu. If you cannot see a Font Size section, look for an Advanced button and click that, then click the General tab and you will see Font Size section. Now set the Font Size to Normal or Large Fonts.

If you make a change, click Apply and proceed slowly, reading all of the text that appears. Generally a reboot is the safest way to apply screen setting changes.

Once the reboot completes, get back into Settings as described above. Check that the desired changes have been made. In some cases, a value may have been changed by your system because your graphics board does not support dense palettes at high resolutions. If this happens, drop down to the next lower color resolution and try again.

Repeat until you succeed in getting at least 800x600 resolution, at least 16 bit color and Normal Fonts selected.
