PartyCAD makes duplicate files

Sometimes PartyCAD creates copies of my arrangements. Why?

The short answer is -- these duplicate arrangements are a feature, not a bug. You should leave them alone.

The long answer is very long indeed:

Suppose you create a party with the Party Wizard and you make changes and save the modified page in Layout page as PARTY. This is the normal way you go about making a party and at the end of the process you will have the following files:

PARTY.LAY -- where your page is store
PARTY.ARR -- where your actual design is stored. This is used by the Furnish module

OK. Now suppose that you want to make a second variation of your party, so you load PARTY into Layout Page and make some changes.
If you save the changed page under its old name of PARTY, you will be overwriting your original design and PartyCAD can easily do that.
If however, you want both versions to be available for later use, you will save the modified page under a new name, say PARTY2. This creates a problem for PartyCAD -- for two versions of a page, there must be two versions of the related .ARR file:

Prior to PartyCAD 9, the program was not smart enough to create and manage multiple versions of a design, and so the way to make new versions was to duplicate the project using the Project Manager and make the changes in the second project.

In PartyCAD 9, logic was added to cope with this situation within a single project. Now when you save the second version of a page, PartyCAD automatically creates a new .ARR to hold the modified design data. The name of this arrangement is much the same as the original, except that the last letter of the file name is changed to give a unique name.

This automatic duplication of arrangements is a good thing, even though their appearance may be puzzling when you first click Furnish a Plan and see them in the list.
