Moving a project to a different machine

Top  Previous  Next

Sometimes I have a project that I want to work on at home. How can I move a project back and forth between two machines?

Let's suppose we have a project named Gandy that we want to move from machine A to machine B. There are two easy ways to do this:

1. Use Backup and Restore

a. On machine A, click Project Select from the Main Menu. This brings up the Project Manager. Click once on Gandy in the list to highlight it. Click the Backup Project button. Select Other, note that the default name of the backup file will be Gandy.bak. Click Save. This zips all of the files in the project into a single backup file that is typically stored in the C:\PartyCAD\Backup folder and has an extension of .bak.

b. Transfer the file C:\PartyCAD\Backup\Gandy.bak from machine A to the exact same folder on machine B. The two machines should be running the same exact version of PartyCAD.

c. On Machine B. click Project Select from the Main Menu. Click the Restore Project button, click Other, click Gandy.bak in the list and click Open. PartyCAD will now lead you through the process of unzipping the file to create the Gandy project on your second machine.

2. Use a USB Flash Drive

A much quicker way to work on a project on two machines is to use a removable USB flash drive. Once you set this up on the two machine, you just carry the project around on the flash drive and plug it into whichever machine you happen to be using at the moment.
