Emailing a Project

How can I email a PartyCAD project to another user of PartyCAD?

SENDING A PROJECT

You can send a PartyCAD project to any PartyCAD user who has the same or a newer version of the program than yourself by doing the following:

Suppose you have a project called Ralph that you want to send:

1. Run PartyCAD and click Project Select to bring up the Project Manager.

2. Click the Ralph project name in the list one time to select it, if it is not already selected.

3. Click the Backup Project button, then Other to get to the Backup File to Save menu.

4. We want to save the backup onto the desktop to make it easier to attach to an email, so click the "Up One Level" button at the top of the menu until the Save In box to the left of it reads Desktop

5. Click the Save button at the bottom right of the menu.

PartyCAD will now compress and combine all project related files and put them in a file named Ralph.bak on your desktop.

6. Start up your email client and attach Ralph.bak to the message. Send it.

RECEIVING A PROJECT

If you get an email with a project attachment, here is how to get it working on your machine:

Suppose the attachment is called Ralph.bak

1. Save Ralph.bak into the folder C:\PartyCAD\Backup If such a folder does not already exist on your machine, you can create it manually, or simply backup any of your own projects from within PartyCAD and the program will create it for you.

2. Run PartyCAD and click Project Select to bring up the Project Manager.

3. Click the Restore Project button, then Other and a Backup File to Restore menu will appear. You should see Ralph.bak in the list.

4. Double-click the Ralph.bak entry and PartyCAD will restore the files from the backup to a new project on your system.

5. Once you are back to the Project Manager, click OK to load the project as the current project.

All the project data from the sender will be in your new project, but art that was not located in the project folder on his/her machine will not be. Typically this means the senders logo will be replaced by ? on your machine.
