Finding Lost Data

Top  Previous  Next

Each time that you use the Party Wizard, PartyCAD creates a new project in which to store the related data. At the Main Menu, you can tell which project you are in by looking up near the top, where it says Project Name. If you use PartyCAD the way most people do, this will be the name of your client.

So, suppose you want to go back to a previously created project. How do you do that? It is quite simple. Just click the Project Select button at the top left of the Main Menu and the Project Manager will appear. All of your projects are listed here. Click the name of the client you wish to return to and then click OK, and you will be returned to the Main Menu with that older project loaded. Click Layout A Page and load the Party page (or another in the list) and you are ready to edit the old project.

If you have gone to the Project Manager and you don't see the desired project in the list, either you have deleted it, or you didn't start a new project for your customer but instead put the new data in an already existing project by mistake.

If you deleted the project for a particular job, it is gone for good and you will have to recreate it.

If you did not delete the data, then work through the list of available projects, doing the following:

Load a project as the current project -- you will be back at the Main Menu.
Click Layout a Page and load the pages listed one at a time. If one of these is the misplaced design, good. You are done and can now edit the page.
If you just used Furnish a Plan to create the now misplaced data, that data may never have been loaded onto a page, so from the Main Menu, click Furnish a Plan and load the arrangements you see there. If you find your data, good. You can now continue with your design work.
If the missing data is not in the project you have just examined, go back to the Project Manager and select the next project in the list.

Some beginners don't read the instructions or understand the video and so never create any new projects. In this case, typically all data gets saved into the Samples project, so be sure to check there if you don't remember having ever created any projects in PartyCAD.

Once you have found your data and your nerves begin to settle down, it would be a good idea to go back and watch the Quick Start videos again. These illustrate the best way to use PartyCAD if you are a beginner. Once you have mastered this, it will be time enough to start experimenting with your own ideas.
