Path/File Access Error

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

There are a couple of reasons you might receive this error:

1. Problems Creating 'COPY' Folder

If when you create a new project or attempt to save an existing one, you get the following error:

Error Creating 'COPY' Folder in AppData

this means that PartyCAD was unable to create the 'COPY' folder where a backup copy of your work is saved within your PartyCAD project.

This problem has been reported three times, and after weeks of experimentation, I have come to believe that it is cause by anti-virus software. In my final, successful, experiment I turned off the anti-virus on the machine and the problem immediately went away. If this is what happens to you, your anti-virus software likely needs to be told to add PartyCAD to a white list or exclusion list. Your anti-virus people will likely know how to proceed. If I can be of any assistance, please let me hear from you.

2. Problems with where you are attempting to save your PartyCAD projects.

A Path/File Access Error may also occur under the following conditions:

- You keep you data on a server rather than on your local machine and that server has got offline. PartyCAD cannot access the server and so gives  the error.

- You want to keep your data in a folder on a server but have forgotten to set or have changed the permissions on the folder that allow PartyCAD to read/write/create files in the folder and in any subfolders. If PartyCAD cannot write needed information, it gives this error.

- You want to keep your data in a folder in a different account on your local machine but have forgotten to set or have changed the permissions on the folder to allow PartyCAD to read/write/create files in the folder and any subfolders.

All of these problems are easily fixed by insuring your server (if any) is up and running and by verifying that the PartyCAD data folder has the proper permissions. To see which folder is being used for project storage, start PartyCAD to get to the Start menu, then click Manage Locations at the bottom of the menu to bring up the Locations Menu. This menu contains information about where PartyCAD is expecting to store your data. Check to see that the "in use" locations are available and that the folder has read/write/create permissions which will allow PartyCAD to use them for data storage. Fix any problems with these items and your Path/File Access Error should go away.
